Welcome to the third edition of PRODUCTIVITY BOOSTERS, a series of three e-newsletters featuring machinery and supplies from members of the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America exhibiting at the AWFS Vegas Fair. PRODUCTIVITY BOOSTERS is specially presented by the WMMA, in collaboration with Wood & Wood Products and Custom Woodworking Business magazines.
As an added feature, to the right is an alphabetical list of WMMA members exhibiting at AWFS Vegas, along with each company's corresponding booth number and a link to its Web site.
At the AWFS Vegas Fair, the WMMA will present its "Find It Here" campaign, an endorsement of more than 120 exhibiting members that manufacture machinery, cutting tools and supplies. Thousands of woodworking products and solutions will be on display at these members' booths during the four-day show, July 18-21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. For more information, stop by the WMMA's booth No. 6117 or visit www.wmma.org.

CNC Technology for the Small Professional
Following the launch of its full-size PRS systems in January, ShopBot has taken the technology and mechanicals of those tools and scaled them down into a machine suitable for use in garage or basement workshops, sign shops and smaller-production, professional woodworking facilities where space is at a premium. The newest ShopBot CNC, which, like its larger brethren, will carry a designation of either PRSalpha or PRSstandard (depending on motor and drive system) is a Personal Robotic System designed for industrial, commercial or residential applications in wood, acrylic and non-ferrous metals. The smaller PRS CNCs incorporate many of the same features as ShopBot’s full-size systems, yet weigh less than 300 lbs and occupy less than 16 sq ft of floor space. The PRSalpha provides the speed and accuracy necessary for precise cutting and milling applications and detailed 3-D carving, while the PRSstandard offers an affordable opportunity for the hobbyist and serious do-it-yourselfer to incorporate the advantages of CNC into home-improvement projects.
Insert Router Bits for Making MDF Door
Vortex Tool Co. stocks a wide variety of insert router bits for MDF door production. A complete selection of outside edges, inside treatments and raised panel profiles are in stock and ready for immediate shipment. Call (800) 355-7708 to receive a free catalog featuring these and all of Vortex’s standard production routing tools.
Lineal Finishing System
Deimco’s PLC controlled Multiple Canopy Lineal Finishing System is a complete in-line spray finishing system capable of finishing more than 300 fpm in both conventional and UV coatings. Deimco's multiple canopy machines allow users to run completely diverse finishes on the same line without contamination issues.
Horizontal Resaw
The ReMax 500 is a heavy-duty, horizontal Resaw that is being used in a wide range of applications including, flooring, windows, doors, furniture, musical instruments, and many other areas requiring veneer products and resawing. The machine is built from solid cast iron, incorporates a durable and effective guiding system and uses thin-kerf saw blades under high tension. Its modular construction allows it to be purchased as a single, stand-alone unit or additional units can be added as production requirements demand.
Hybrid Blaster
The Delta V-a Plus Hybrid Blaster can remove paint, stain, glue, mastic, tar, asphalt, burnt-on hydrocarbons, mold, fire damage, grease, grime and more. It can be used to clean buildings, ovens, trucks, production lines, factory equipment, conveyors, presses, etc. It blasts aggressively with dry ice or almost any other media such as baking soda, rice, corn products, etc.

Helicarb Cutterhead
The patent-pending Helicarb cutterhead offers the woodworking industry cutters that feature a continuous, one-piece replaceable twisted carbide blade — not a segmented design. The blade produces a smooth shearing action, like a scissors when cutting, and reduces tear-out. The one-piece twisted blade is replaceable, and can be easily sharpened with proper grinding — keeping downtime to a minimum. The Helicarb cutterhead can be jointed to attain a multi-knife finish and achieve true running accuracy within 0.0005-inch.
Woodworking Tooling
With more than 80 years of woodworking experience, Wisconsin Knife Works has supplied thousands of woodworking plants with high-performance tooling. WKW's broad line includes router bits, quick delivery cutterheads, finger joint cutters and an extensive line of knife steel products.
SandTrac Monitor
Carter Products introduces a new version of its SandTrac Width Utilization Promptor/Monitor. Carter says the SandTrac helps operators and supervisors manage abrasive belt usage, improving product consistency and reducing abrasives costs. SandTrac monitors operator input, and outputs a real-time LED graph reflecting belt usage patterns directly on the front of the machine. The graph indicates where abrasive belt wear is the greatest, prompting the operator to utilize other sections of the widebelt.
Profile Sander
Larick Machinery's Model 360 can tilt either forward or backward to minimize the depth the profile goes into the wheel, and to keep the abrasive as flat as possible on the wheel. It also has a simple, stationary, rigid, but removable fence, and features both vertical and horizontal spindle adjustment from the front of the machine. Horizontal spindle adjustment allows the operator to quickly make fine adjustments of sanding pressure without moving the fence. The newly re-designed Model 360B uses an inverter for speed control, and the spindle tilts easily with a crank and easy to read scale.
Splitting Saw Blades
Super Thin Saws' FL Series splitting saws are designed specifically for the production of sawn veneers, using double vertical arbor splitting units. The saws use double-hub, tapered-rim circular sawblades, to achieve maximum stiffness with minimum steel thickness and minimum kerf. The uniquely high stiffness-to-kerf-squared ratio allows users to achieve maximum yield and maximum feed rate, with minimum lamella size variation.
CNC Feed-Thru Shaper & Sander
Jenkins Systems Model 5104 produces all five components of cabinet and architectural doors as well as valances. Proven technology, a precision feed chain and a structurally solid design insure the production of square parts. An optional outboard fence provides the ability to precisely size products. Exclusive True-Blend contouring reduces sanding and improves product finish. Change over time is minimized with quick-change counter rotating direct drive spindles and easy to use touch-screen operator interface. Users can size, raise, arch, sand, cope, stick and edge, all on one machine.
Insert Tooling
At this year's AWFS Fair, Safranek Enterprises Inc., will introduce the newest addition to the Her-Saf Insert Tooling line; Round-Over Insert Quick Change cutter with bearing — available in a 1/8-, 3/16- and 1/4-inch radius.
Digital Measurement Systems
ProScale digital measurement systems are well suited for moulders, tenoners, planers, widebelt sanders and anywhere else where tooling needs to be positioned or a linear measurement needs to be made. All ProScale readings are made in inches or millimeters with accuracy up to 0.002 inch. ProScales are not affected by sawdust and wood debris. They operate on batteries so no electrical installation is required.
Dovetail Machinery
Alexander Dodds offers dovetail machinery to handle all dovetail applications. Systems are available for making 10 or 10,000 drawers a day. Drawer assembly machines are also available.
The PRODUCTIVITY TIPS series is presented by the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (www.wmma.org) in partnership with Wood & Wood Products and Custom Woodworking Business (www.iswonline.com).
