Who do think are the best and worst candidates, be it Presidential, Senatorial or even local, for the woodworking industry and the country in general? Why?

American manufacturers are losing their ability to compete in the global market place in large measure due to the crushing burden of health care costs.  Health care adds $1500 to the cost of every car GM makes in the U.S.  In Canada GM pays nothing.  No other part of my business increases 20% per year.  So whatever candidate is more likely to deliver a rational system would be the candidate i would support.   historically American business has been reluctant to support national health insurance because they feared higher taxes to pay for it.   But what CEO's now are coming to understand, and what many academic studies show is that this fear has been largely unfounded.  I lived in japan for 7 years.   the cost to administrate their system is about 4 cents to the dollar.  In the US it's 25 cents.  Why should we have to pay for this horrible inefficiency?

I fully agree with Craig that something has to be done about healthcare cost containment. The skyrocketing cost of heath care is a runaway train that is putting such a humongous burden on businesses that we could one-day come to the day when all we have left is cottage industries. Something must be done, but what? Hillary made this her mission during her hubby's first term and got no where. Presidential candidates need to have their feet put to the fire on this issue. In the end, there will be winners and there will be losers, but unless something is done to relieve the burden on business, all will ultimately lose.

Voting for the candidate that is offering healthcare for all will only slow our businesses more in the long run. Taxes must go up to pay for the healthcare programs. I would rather pay less taxes and more healthcare, at least then its me spending my dollars and not the federal government. I can pick the best healthcare plan for me, and I can pick the plan with the best coverage with the lowest price, therefore rewarding the most competitive company. How would the federal government choose your health plan? After doing a few calculations I spend 3x per month on gas than I do on health insurance, and 5x on taxes. Lastly, I lose countless dollars each month to low ball bids from the unlicensed contractors that come over the boarder each day (im in a boarder city). These guys dont pay taxes, insurance, license fees, their trucks dont even pass smog checks, and their hourly rate wouldnt even cover my expenses. They are bidding on some of the same jobs that I am. This is the biggest money drain our industry. I will not be voting republican, I will be voting conservative. To me that is the person who lowers taxes and burdens on business in order to increase over all tax revenues. Someone who will let the marketplace work.
